Every year on April 17, World Hemophilia Day is celebrated with events held around the globe to raise awareness of hemophilia. In 2024, the World Federation of Hemophilia decided that the theme of the event this year would be “Equitable access for all: recognizing all bleeding disorders”. The goal is to ensure that all people with bleeding disorders have access to care, regardless of their type of bleeding disorder, gender, age, or where they live.

A strong earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale struck near Hualien, in eastern Taiwan, in the early morning of April 3rd. This is the largest earthquake since the 921 earthquake. Numerous homes collapsed across Taiwan, with Hualien being particularly hard-hit. Many people have been affected, with some losing their homes and facing a long road to recovery. We express our deepest sympathy to all those recently affected by the earthquake on the east coast of Taiwan. Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. We sincerely pray for the swift recovery of the disaster-stricken areas. Chugai Pharma Taiwan donated one day's salary of all employees to Hualien County Government.

Chugai Pharma Taiwan (CPT) initiated an innovative campaign to promote sustainability—the cultivation of millet and the protection of the habitat of the russet sparrow, a protected species, in the villages of the Rukai people in Pingtung. In 2023, from November 10 to 12, CPT hosted a three-day, two-night charity cycling event starting from Shicheng and Bitojiao, passing through Keelung, Yehliu, and Danshui along the coastline, and concluding at the Hsinchu High-Speed Rail Station, exploring various sightseeing spots along the way.

Chugai Pharma Taiwan was awarded the "Outstanding Business Entity Award" by the Ministry of Finance in 2023. The award ceremony, hosted by the Taipei National Taxation Bureau of the Ministry of Finance, took place on October 26. Commissioner Lian-Ying Wu, on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, presented medals and commemorative gifts to the recipients.

Chugai Pharma Taiwan, in collaboration with the local brand "Taiwan BlueMagpie Tea", has sponsored a organic BlueMagpie Tea Garden this year, aiming at assisting tea farmers in growing pesticide-free tea leaves, transforming Pinglin into an ecological village, ensuring safer water supply sourced from Feicui Reservoir to the Greater Taipei Area, while also supporting tea farmers in their livelihoods, to protect food safety, the environment, and our cherished blue magpies.

With a deficiency in clotting factors, hemophilia patients face not only the constant worry of accidental injuries but also the burdensome occurrence of spontaneous bleeding, particularly within the joint cavities. The recurring nature of these bleedings, coupled with the inability to replenish clotting factors on time, has led to disability among countless hemophilia patients in the past. Hence, the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) has proclaimed April 17th as "World Hemophilia Day," with activities organized worldwide to enhance the awareness of care among hemophilia patients and their families.
